Still works from Tallinn! Task was to make a comic about your favourite mythological character. I had hard time choosing and asked for help from the group - and so Jonna and Matilda told me about the birth of Sleipnir, the eight-legged-horse of Odin from Asgard. Great stuff, worth a comic :D So there you go: Spider foals loved dearly by Ina

On the last day of the Tallinn comic camp we drew comics based on a role play. It's really hard to explain how it works in here, but we had the characters and dices and point calculations and what not. The first two panels were given as a start and the rest of the story just started to grow from there. By the way, this was also made to be a booklet, so it reads a bit differently posted like this. Think it as spreads so it's easier to follow the story. Man I like drawing big noses. Unable to get her punches through because of a tricksy dice was Ina

This is the final work from the Tallinn comic camp, done mostly on a ferry home. It's also my second contribution to the day comic series done in the camp. I'm quite sure there should be a "plane" somewhere in the name of Tallinn Sea plane harbour museum. Oh well. Irritated by drunk Finnish cruisers was Ina

I was being very constructive in a group work session the other day. Butterflies' rights furiously defended by Ina

Taas unenomaisia aiheita. Nuorten avoimessa pajassa annettiin tehtäväksi piirtää sarjis pohjautuen johonkin uneen, jonka on oikeasti nähnyt.

New: Translatiooooons for my international friends!!! // France! The undeniable homeland of haute cuisine!! / 100 recipes for microwave... Translations every now and then provided by Ina's Translation Super Service Co ltd est2016

// My kitchen is also my bathroom ! / Meh, I don't wanna do the dishes ... Well, who's gonna make me! / This doesn't work. Where could I put them ...? / There might be unexpected consequences ... / Then again, sometimes one just has to accept the inevitable evolution of things ... (Viitaten muumisarjakuvaan, jossa tiskejä pidettiin sängyn alla odottamassa seuraavaa sadetta. Todellisuudessa käytän kylpyammetta paljon vähemmän proosallisesti kuivauskaappina. Ikea on jo täällä, miksei kuivauskaapit ole?! Moan!) // My kitchen is made for people taller than me. / ... /All right! Tuolilla keikkui Ina

// first day at school / the only site visit on the course / state of health Kannatti kuitenkin nousta :) Nuhaisena raunioissa nuuski Ina

Observations from the world part 1 and 2 // The more one travels towards the South - / Finland, Scotland, France / - the more the milk tastes like cow. // Quite often the French speak very quietly, even when giving a lecture. / It's also very common, that the back row starts to mumble among themselves during the lecture ... / sigh Mitään kuulemattomin korvin maitoja maisteli Ina

// Meat 25%, animal product 19% ... / Oh shi-- there's a bone!! For reasons which I can totally and honestly justify to myself, I ended up eating french canned food with meat. And I came to think that one of the best things in vegetarianism is that vegetables are quite homogenous in nature (pun not intended) and basically don't contain bones. I also found small stones in one can and some straws along a piece of cheese I got from the market. I'd say french food is quite down-to-earth, then ... Quickly returned to vegetarian diet was Ina

// Recipe for happiness - traditional fresh baguette - Roqueford - little sweet juicy organic pears Buy ingredients from the market. Serve as perfect small mouthfuls. Enjoy in no hurry and spice up with sunshine. / Sunday is a market day for Ina

This happened couple of weeks ago, but the moment was unforgettable ... // An ordinary evening in an ordinary Parisian commuter train... / Hé! / C'est la Tour Eiffel !! / The generally known cliché stating that Eiffel tower is visible from every single window in Paris was therefore confirmed. / Just returned from a tiring-but-awesome micro holiday from Paris, had great fun!! Love, Ina

// French and Swedish - they are the same language, right? I've been having very bizarre dreams lately which I think is a sign of a serious brain overheating as my familiar Finnish phrase structures violently collide with the French... But why Swedish instead of - English?! I just don't know... Near and the dear French ones baffled by unexpected Scandinavian and Ina

// 2013 So these shoes are guaranteed to endure for two years without faults or wear damage. / 2014 thlomp thlomp / 2015 SCRATCH snap crackle pop / I somehow understand you can programme a printer to break when the guarantee finishes - but I couldn't imagine it applies to SHOES as well! Stuck in France in leaking shoes is Ina (Oh no, this can only mean that I HAVE to buy new shoes from PARIS!!! =0_0=)

When ecologists' troubles become troubles for landscape architects: // Darned biologists! / And curse you Linné et al. who invented taxonomy!! / I've got just THIS much space in the layout for the name of this BIRD-- / And somebody just happened to call it Chroicocephalus ridibundus!!! / Weren't you supposed to be a professional in the field of visual design? Just work your magic! - Oh shut it... / No, really: biologists, ecologists and especially Linné dearly loved and appreciated by Ina

I'm sorry, this just doesn't translate, at least within my skills. (The more I think of it, it's due to the joke being rather complicated =_=* hope Finnish-speakers still find it amusing) The message in short is: Fresh tradition-baguette is super good! Eat it! Already two traditions this week devoured by Ina

// The little choices of everyday life make the BIGGEST difference. / ... / I just bought some very expensive AIR! / Fault in our bread. Nutella goes right through... / In fact, Nutella is no longer supported 'cause it contains PALM OIL! Instead I've bought some very fine, artisanal and deliciously rough Italian nut and chocolate spread which is actually made of nuts and chocolate. It's also vegan, sans gluten and kosher. Don't ask how much I paid. I also half-accidentally spent my weekly food budget on organic cheeses in the market place this week. Now I have camembert for the rest of my lif-- eh, month. PS. In case someone didn't know, "pain" means "bread" in French. Odyssey of organic gourmandises in France only just begun by Ina

a.k.a Pariisin kevät // Right... I'd say it's not THAT warm yet... / Oh goodness, like, it's not really THAT cold...! Woollen socks regularly worn by Ina

// Wow, what a beautiful evening! It's spring, it's Friday and I'm in France!! / Feels good to be alive! / I wonder what to do tonight? - since I'm still young and pretty and the world is open for me... / ... Haluaisin kutsua kuvattua tilaa sarjis-kalsarikänneiksi, vaikka tavoilleni uskollisena en mitään teetä vahvempaa nauttinutkaan ;) Firmly stuck inside the four walls was Ina

Another comic about how my 15 square meters serve as a human dwelling. Kati visited me!!! // How does your your burner work? Just a minute, I'll range the groceries and then show you. / Plates are in the tub, by the way. / There wasn't enough space on the table - so I made the table on the floor! Super! Weird furniture solutions fondly appreciated by Ina

// Stand back! We're gonna try science! / sugar, oil, something - I guess... Nice that someone who speaks French is reading the recipe...! / Bling! / Oops, it burned. We got a heart-shaped coal lump! / Bling! / Smells like ham. Feels like sponge. / Bling! / Wow, this is actually really good! So we just made chocolate cake in a mug in microwaves in five minutes! Not bad! Totally carried away by peculiar pastries was Ina

After Kati's visit I realized that there is a piece missing from my life... Also, a small mundane event of checking the mails revealed another serious lack in my everyday life. Sorry, I'm not gonna translate this time. But it's about horses and how they are awesome and how much I miss them. Struggling with finding a good, solid word for need was Ina (Extra super much love for those who recognize the reference :P)

// Voilà we are going to have a grand boulevard. Take notes! / "Must be spacious enough to fit at least four driving lanes, two parking lanes, side streets with parking facilities, wide sidewalks, two-way cycling lanes - / -on both sides, and two- no, four lines of mature planetrees." Eh, Highness... / what's a parking lane? / Just make it wide!!! In case it's not obvious *cruel irony* the guy with fancy wig is Louis XIV alias Roi Soleil, The Sun King. He sure saw the future of modern car-dependant society. Exhausted by exhaust fumes in front of the Versailles Palace every day is Ina

Now I've done it, no need to do it again. Because it was actually very unpractical, the baguette kept almost falling all the way home. But what wouldn't you do for a picture, right? Ma petite trottinette aimée par Ina

Is there anything better than a cake in a mug? / Yes. / I'll never find a real boyfriend if I keep falling for the comic heroes... Corto Maltese - Sous le soleil de minuit was okay, but only as good as a pastiche (or hommage) can be, unfortunately. Like very good quality fan-fiction. But one or two aphorisms-to-put-on-a-T-shirt too many for my taste. Anyway, thank you the municipal library of Versailles for offering me this intriguing treat. Luuv ya! More mug cakes on the make tonight by Ina

alias Scenes in restaurants // Le Festin Nu, Paris: We could order more bread. Ina speaks the best French, Ina will order. / Waaah!! / Jim Block, Hamburg: Okay Ina - the guys in our class, who do you think is the most good-looking? /... / Hm, well... / Catch of the day, Hamburg: *in bad German* I'd like to have fish'n'chips and apple juice, please. Bla bla bla ( question in German)? / coughh / *in French* I'm sorry I don't speak German, actually. Wait - damn! // Julia and Romeo visited me, yay! I went to Hamburg, yay! I caught a flu there, un-yay... Restaurants of Europe frequented by Ina

// Site visit somewhere in the South-East of Paris // Maybe some other landscape architects get it... or so hopes Ina

I caught a flu of the century in Hamburg and was bed-bound for DAYS. These sorry scribbles were done in the eye of the storm. // *Various coughing and sneezing* / I'm one walking biohazard... / Professor Tanant of studio course 7 appears to me in delirium. / Why aren't you working on the scale model? Mercy, professor, can't you see I'm not okay... / That's no reason to -- What would you like me to do?! Make a model from used tissues? Or from my own dead body?! / ... / NOW I think we're getting somewhere! Oh, begone! / Neti pot! I'll give half a kingdom for neti pot! But you don't have half a kingdom. / I'll give my firstborn for half a kingdom!! Fair enough... // Craving for pizza as well was Ina

// It's spring! It's Friday! / I'm young and beautiful and I'm in France! / The world is open and full of possibilities! / gargle gargle rrrump rump splosh splash // In the possession of heaps of clean clothes to wear on Saturday is Ina

// *odd collection of battle cries* / Z-zapp! Waaaaah!! / Mwahaha! Rhâââ! Outchie! // 6-0 for the Sun!! Quality of the English translation of this comic seriously questioned by Ina. Who did it?!

// From my insurance company. Wonder what they want now...? / due to the fact that you haven't paid your insurance we are forced to terminate your contract... But I've paid it! / date of termination: April 21 / BUT I'VE PAID IT! / Here, on March 25 - and this was sent on 31st. But it was Easter then... / And it took three weeks from the notice to arrive here 'cause I didn't tell my new address 'cause I'VE PAID IT and I thought we're even -- / So they just probably haven't noticed my payment before sending this. And everything is probably fine. Phew. / It's Friday evening so I won't be able to find out before Monday anyway... / But what if they really haven't gotten my payment! And they have really cut my insurance yesterday! And I'm alone in France! Now if something happens...!!! / So I'll just wait here-- not moving a muscle-- until Monday... / Dang. This is my only saucepan. How am I gonna cook? // Oh lords the amount of text in this comic!! Dear parents, everything is fine, in case you worried. Love, Ina Hywää ja riemullista Wappua!

a.k.a Kevätväsymys Last week has been more or less like this... It may have something to do with a fact that I should be a good girl and study while there's full summer outside. Crazy acrobatics imagined by Ina

// If the statues became alive, what would they do first? // Pigeons of the Place Hoche @Versailles frequently observed by Ina

Pienoismallikronikat, eli mitä kaikkea jännää ateljeessa tapahtuukaan kalmanlinjan edellä: // *various weird songs playing in my head* / This just won't do -- Tell her! With pleasure. / Ahoy! / What the heck, dude, really?! Well ex-squeeze me! / Good, getting better... // // Oh troll, it's already six o'clock. Well, I'll just rapidly finish with this cutting and then I must eat something... / WAAAAH! / splat / What just happened?! A time warp. What time is it? It's half past nine. Darn! I still haven't eaten! // // Sleeping mattress! Halleluja! / Laugh, looks like you're praying there / Oh the sacred models... / Attention on your yoga mats, it's time for a small exercise. Ooooommmm / ... / *easily excited* Like this? / grunt / Ah-ha! / Waaah! / Hehehe. It's always smart to decorate the landing platform with glue and sharp cutters and your precious models. Good aim, though... // Quantity over quality -thinking promoted by Ina

// Careful now, Higgins. The previous expedition never returned. / Hum, traces of scale model building and eating... / I found the washing spot, Mr Stone. It seems abandoned... / scratch whiiiish / I don't think so. Nothing indicates it has left. The beast might still be here... // I want to thank Mama, Silence of the Lambs and Steven Moffat for inspiration. //If you go to the forest in Finland, it's awful: Mosquitoes! Nettles! Mud! Snakes! Ticks! / If you go to the forest in France, it's definitely even more awful: You can find all the same things here AND all the plants have spikes! //

// ... / I'm going to sleep, good night! Good night, Manon! / Waah, there's an enormous animal! Is it a wild boar? / No, it's a rhino! ??/ Wow!// I spent my summer in french countryside, doing voluntary work on two horse farms. I met lovely equines, of course, but also some very interesting, beautiful or otherwise absolutely cool animals as well.

a.k.a Antispeciesism for donkeys // Aymeric Caron: Antispéciste / Humans and animals have a lot in common. These shared features include, for example, consciousness, sense of pain and emotions -- / Every animal is a conscious and intelligent individual. Like humans, animals show empathy, solidarity and sense of justice. / Some species even have superhuman skills -- / That's right, don't you think, Cadet? / ... / *clip clop* / Well, you probably knew that already... / Or maybe he just didn't dig my accent... // // Antoine de Saint-Exupéry: Terre des Hommes / Two days after our plane crashed I've drank only a drop of rosé and walked almost 200 kilometres under the merciless sun. / My throat hasn't yet dried completely, but it's aching and sore. Small droplets of light have started their dance in the fringes of my vision. / The treacherous wind of the desert caresses my face and dries my blood with it's every soft breath -- / Oh please!! / Saint-Ex needed only keep himself alive! // I recommend Terre des Hommes (Siipien sankarit suomeksi) to all who like the works of Hugo Pratt and Hayao Miyazaki who, in my opinion, share more or less the same world view and are amazing artists... When I grow up I'd like to be like one of them.

// ... / Wow, how I'm tanned today! / ... / Or not... //

We took one day off to go to them movies and continued the animated marathon in the evening. And the winner iiiiiiis...!! // Don't worry, my dear! Just keep swimming! / Just keep swimming... / Let's go, Hank! Just keep swimming!! / It was nice. Yes, the little Dory was sweet. I luuv the octopus! / Five hours later: / Oh no! / Oh yes! / ... / Go Spirit, go! Woooooow! I'm gonna cry I'm gonna cry! Awesome! / The horses vs. the fish, 6-0 // The result may have something to do with the fact that Spirit came out when almost all of us were in the sensitive age of ten or something and hopeless cases even then, when it comes to horses. All in all, it's a very well made animated film. Yay!! <3

//... / If I had to eat poo, I'd prefer horse shit to a dog shit... You know, I've thought exactly the same thing! / Besides, I'd have my horse poo well dried. Sun-dried dookies look almost delicious... / What are you laughing? Nothing, I just realised what I just said. / Oh yes, this is a very strange conversation. After the woofing one thing is sure- / I'll be drawing a lot of comics about manure in my blog! // Tomorrow: Horse poop chronicles!

So, comics about manure, as shoveling it was my only job during a couple of weeks last summer. The following comics were born in action and based on reality. Enjoy! // There are bicycle diggers. "white sided tyres and leather seat" / and tea diggers "shun the non-believer!" / and hifi diggers "This goes to eleven" / When you find yourself trying to scrape the remains of three-day-old pile of horse poo out of a spikey bush you may have to acknowledge - / I've become a manure digger! / The first shovel cleans up the body of poo. The second one finishes. Third one is just digging. / Manure digging is a combination of cleaning neurose and pedantry. You are a manure digger, if you prefer hunting down the smallest pieces of it instead of taking a shower after the working hours. / As other diggers, manure diggers care about the origins of a product: "that's fallen from the wheelbarrow, that one was trampled by a horse and that came out running" / The most experienced may even recongnize a horse from it's poop! / Manure digging isn't harmful, but vice versa. " Cleanliness is half a meal " / Which is good, because manure diggers are motivated by the well-being of horses. Hence they are REALLY motivated! " Literally, since horses eat and poop in the same paddock" / / Manure digging may cause minor trouble amongst the people who aren't manure diggers, which is normal also in other mild neurose cases. "Ina it's already good! Wait, there are still some nuggets...!" Happy digging! // Dear horse owners, especially you who have ridicolous amounts of money- / I'll be addressing you about a very serious well-being problem / that touches both horses and humans across the globe. / As the well-being of a horse is depending on the well-being of their human... / I'd like you to tell me the one thing that reduces the well-being of horse-nutties / A hint: it's a hard and dull job that you have to do, regardless, every day. / Did I hear someone say "Cleaning up the manure"? / That's right! Cleaning up the manure! / / Horses and humans share a history of thousands of years. / Imagine the amount of manure that has been shoveled manually - / and continues to be shoveled manually even today! / Humankind han traveled to the moon and split the atom- / but hasn't invented a machine to clean up the manure!! / So I suggest you quit quickly splurging money on race horses and sperm banks - / -and start to pay some guy MONEY in order to invent a manure-picking-machine!! / ... / ... / Chop-chop! // Omg, I need to learn to make comics with less text... >=<*

// Today you'll bring the horses from the pasture to the stables. Theres no space for saddles in the car, so you'll have to do without. Have you ever held another horse in a leach while riding? Well, no... / Well, it will make a good excercise. / --Riiight... //

French National Day is the 14th of July. // ... / *death* / Hey Ina, are all the Finns as sensitive to alcohol as you are? / It's the lack of sleep!! / I didn't even drink a drop... // I noticed that I do a lot of comics where I reconstruct a situation or conversation, and actually I don't know if they are funny or not... This is one of them.

// Oh yes, it's just another "good excercise"! //

// In our family there are five dogs and four cats - / One hundred and fifty horses - / This year we had fourty two foals. They keep us entertained... Mojitos? / Stud farm // Voluntary work may take a person to wondrous places...

// (Finnish children's song that translates more or less like:) Hear the quiet sounds of the fairies / as they dance / throught the night / singing -- /... / Did you fall asleep there? Oh, horse! // My ultimate favourite moment in the Lord of the Rings trilogy is when Gandalf whistles on a moor and the most beautiful horse in the world comes galloping to him. This comic is about as close as I've ever come to that moment in real life. I recommend going to the pasture and singing to horses everytime when possible!

was hard and awful... // This is for you, miss. Welcome again whenever you wish! Yes, actually I'll be returning to my home country soon... / What!? When? Next wednesday... / Leave me your adress, I'll send your bread there. / I'll be missing you so much! Thank you thank you thank you and good bye! / To my vendor of bread whose name I never got to know. // I came back to Finland already in the beginning of August and of course it would have been more elegant to post these comics then, but that would have broken the chronology and my autism would have hurt... So that's all about my adventures in France, folks! Life as ordinary will fill these pages again, hopefully sooner than later. I'll do my best...

Sorry folks, today I don't feel like translating. In short, the thing is that I should start my diploma, but I'd like to draw comics, but the comics I'm working on don't meet (my? my comic teacher's? general?) standards. Everything is un-satisfying. Bah! Well, back to the drawing board, then :D The comic was drawn on the covers of my university's student magazine, by the way, hence the COLOURS :P I also used the weirdest pencils I had (well, ballpoint pen...).

// So, are you going hiking? How did you guess? // *** // Word! //

// Mickey Mouse has only four fingers, - / since it was too hard to fit five fingers into small comic panels. / AAAARGH! / **** Why can't people have just one leg...!! // There you go!

I met with my professor about my Master's Thesis and he wasn't that impressed by my proceedings so far. After I had presented my idea, the professor asked me *very seriously*: "What do you expect to LEARN in this project?" and unfortunately I didn't have a good answer to that. Obviously, I felt like a meaningless piece of dung afterwards. Even though the world was collapsing around me (due to some presidential elections somewhere) that one question haunted me like no other. In my mental state of disappointment and meaninglessness, the only answer I could think of was: "I want to learn how to make GIFs to better describe this sorry state of mind!" Said and done. There you go!

// Look out! It's like sick slippery here! / crunch crunch crunch / It is time to put on the winter gear! Have a nice trip! / crunch crunch / ... / Yeah, this is a public, maintained recreational route. I went to Norway. It was great fun!

// To put it bluntly, there's nothing more useless in the world than shaving your body hair. / And then I chose the oriental dance as a hobby... / I can make it for the performances but the dress rehearsal often comes as a little surprise - so if you were going to say something -- DON'T!! / (enjoy the view, instead) // To be a successful performing artist, I recommend being born completely hairless.

FYI, it's just not happening...

Or rather, my thesis-as-I-imagine-it-will-be. So, I'm preparing my Master's thesis in landscape architecture and the subject is situating horse related activities in manor environments in Helsinki region, especially in Vantaa. I did this comic-doodle-scribble to clarify for myself (and possibly my professor, too) why I think this subject is important. The reason why I didn't write it directly as text was that I had a crazy-ass flu (again) and I would have wanted to just die away and not to think my thesis at all. But I HAD to do something, 'cause you just have to work on your thesis, no matter what, right?! In case there's someone who has great insight or ideas or comments about my subject and how to proceed with it, feel free to say it aloud! :D There you go!

Sorry, this doesn't translate.

Vuoden 2016 huippuhetket tiivistettynä: // Highlights of the year 2016 / Winter: The pale sun that lit Versailles Palace in February / Spring: Experience à la francaise / Summer: Tatiana's gallop / Autumn: Feedback I got from my comic project. Tällaisiakin tuli espressopäissä pohdittua (huom. en yleensä juo minkäänsortin kahvia). Tadaa! Huom. Sisältää paljasta kalannahkaa. MERMAIDS, MERMAIDS EVERYWHERE! Tadah! My two-year-project has reached it's completion, as Captain Andreas and Domino return! This time they face the dangers of topless sirens, mutant goats and a marine musical scene, oh no! Who knows what's going to happen... Please comment and like ;) / I don't get it. / There should be an island around here - / / but it must be hidden very well. / Roff! / / What is it, Domino? Did you see something? -Grr... / Aah! / Whoa, you almost gave me a heart attack! What are you doing down there? Let me help you. / / mermaid talk / / R-right... / Arf! / / Okay, this is getting awkvard. What are you --?! / / Aaagh! / / Hey get your hands off me!!! / / Raow raow raow! Wow, take it easy! It's different! I've always wanted a dog! And- and the forest animals always run away! / So does that one. -Hey! / / Very well, you can keep it! If it wants to stay. But then the spider gets to go. -It ran away already. Thanks mum! / / Hey pal, I'm going to sleep after the camp fire... / / If you like, you can come to sleep inside anytime you want. / -we were completely cornered here. Mister, are you alright there? / Hardly. Quick, Å isn't here, go get help... -Yes sir! / / The crack is too narrow. -We have to enlarge it. -With your bare hands? -Don't you worry down there! / We could use dynamite. Where's Joe? -Joe!! -I'm right here, no need to shout. / / Dynamite? Are you people planning to kill me too? / Don't worry, Joe is professional. / One doesn't get old in this line of work if he doesn't know what he's doing. / / Mermaids are coming! -We got you! -Can you stand? "Mutanttivuohet" esiintyivät sivulla 19. Vitsi on siinä, ettei vuohilla todellisuudessa ole etuhampaita. MacKativer jaksoi muistuttaa minua tästä usein... "Mutant goats" appeared on page 19. In reality, the goats don't really have front teeth, which MacKativer told me quite often... Jätä terveiset! Please leave a comment!

a.k.a. Making of the Mermaids Tämä pieni tilanne sattui viime syksynä, kun keräännyttiin MacKativerin kaa valopöydän ääreen tussaamaan euforisesti omia proggiksiamme. Tulokset löytää muuten sit scrollaamalla alaspäin, vink vink. This little event took place last autumn when MacKativer and I were inking our comic projects in frenzy. Fun times :) The results can be found below, keep scrolling down. / Would it be ready now? / One art teacher in high school adviced to look at your drawings in a mirror. Mulla on vahva epäilys, että Kapu on jostain sieltä päin kotoisin... Mus means kiss in Danish. I'm quite convinced Captain is from around there somewhere... The joke in this comic is based on various traditional finnish midsummer night's beliefs where a young girl can, after performing some "magical" stuff, see her future husband's image in a well or in her dreams or...

Workout challenge So you just had to stop right there! / ... / Go already! / Aaah / Stupid animal! Don't you have a slightest instinct of self preservation?! -What. You yielded. /

This little comic is about the problematics of horse activities in relation to urbanisation. Inspired by my Master's thesis, obviously. / Horses belong to the countryside! / Sprawl / The stables are too far away! /

En tiedä miksi, mutta tuntui hyvältä idealta piirtää tää :) This is a situation that took place in a school yard when I was 11 years old. I don't know why but it felt like a good idea to draw this :) / Ina what do you have there? / It's a baby dinosaur! / Sehän nyt oli ihan selvää. Obviously no-one else could see it...

So municipalities build recreational routes as a basic service for joggers, cyclers and skiers. / -Yes. / But not for riders? -Well, no. / / Municipalities build and maintain swimming pools, football fields and ice rinks. -Yes, yes and yes. / But not riding arenas? -Um, no, but we can't favour just one sport-- / / Municipalities build skateboard parks!!! / Oh, not this #@!% again... / / There will be hundred thousand new inhabitants, we must develop this area. -Yes, but there is one stable there-- / WE MUST DEVELOP! / / The new inhabitants move in. / So where can we go riding? -Oh? / / Pity, we'll just have to drive to the countryside then... These comics were inspired by my master's thesis and peri-urban land use dynamics concerning equine sector. And I didn't even need Landscape Urbanism Bullshit Generator ...

I did my first ever larp a little while ago. Judging by the sauna conversations, larpers (it's a word?) are good people. / I ain't virgin anymore! (LARP virgin, that is) / Not since long time ago (my character is 37) / I've two grown-up kids / / And a dark secret (that's so gonna be revealed) / A full house of Chinese (I'm not supposed to undestand what they say) / So let's just play along, then! / / Heeeelp! -Curse you, you double-crossing babyswapper! / Game over! / Thanks that was fun! / (Juuh, se peli tapahtui siis toisen ja kolmannen rivin välissä.../ The game itself took place between the second and the third line... ) / As a teenager I realized I was bisexual... / My first male crush was Ewan McGregor. -No way! / Mine too! /

According to my investigations for the master's thesis, inhabitants living close to a stable rarely complain about horses. On the contrary, the stableowners may complain about the inhabitants. / It's not allowed to ride here! -It's a bridle path! / /Haha yeah it's a shepherd dog. I thought the ponies could use some exercise haha. / /Toot toot! Notice: Never honk at a horse and its rider! It may be deadly! / /I can't stand looking at those poor creatures just standing there in the mud without anything to eat. This is pure cruelty, you won't get away with this! The animal protection will be notified about this! -Dear Lord, how stupid people can be! /

/ Moody blues with master's thesis: / The Finnish horse is forward-going, humble and honest and always gives 110%. / Overflowing movement -bohoo / Linguistic frustration: -It's societal-political analysis on horse economy in Swedish! Tadaa! Vastaukseni MacKativerin H is for Hero-haasteeseen alkaa! MacKativer's H is for Hero challenge accepted! This month I'll post my favourite fictious heroes in alphabetical order and since I often couldn't pick just one per letter - I chose several! Here goes! A Oh yes Abe, you should! In Artemis' reality an average Atlantian is about one meter tall and besides, that line is probably the closest thing to a compliment you can expect from young mister Fowl. Cherish it to the fullest! Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer Abe Sapien originally by Mike Mignola Abe onkin universumin hotikkain aprilli-silli! ;D www.artemisfowldoesnothaveanimehair.com

There's more than meets the eye in here... (Tip: it's the car!!)(Who's not really a car!!) Well it's Bumblebee, obviously ;P I chose to draw him in car form, since the robot form wouldn't have fit in the picture (e.g. I was lazy). I also applied Petri-the-comic-teacher's golden advice to always draw old cars that have shapes instead of new cars that look like bread rolls. So I chose to draw him as -67 Chevy Camaro, though I don't know if that's really canon, I just saw the Michael Bay movies... Oops, there goes my credibility :"D But partly I wanted to choose an old car also because it suits better with John Blacksad! Blacksad was easier to depict because he 1) doesn't transform and 2) always has the same coat. Blacksad by Juan Diaz Canales and Juanjo Guarnido Transformers by Hasbro

I tried to read Corto Maltese in high school and I didn't get it at all. Fortunately I retried a couple of years ago and realized how great character he is! I guess it's some sort of growing up thing, as with Citizen Cane, you need to be somehow mature to understand The Point. Though, I was also quite jealous to Hugo Pratt for mastering the genre so well that my own scribblings started to seem embarrasing... But in the end the stories were so good that I couldn't hold crudge for very long. Good for me :) The cat is there because of one of my ultimate favourite Corto moments, where he tells stories to Venetian stray cats :3 Corto Maltese by Hugo Pratt

Allons-y! The Doctor was one of those obvious choices on my list of heroes. I drew number 10 since D is for David too. <3<3 Below, I present to you: The Doctor Who Coat Index! It's based on the notion that the length of Doctor's coat is directly relational to the quality of the episodes. Its applies to the 2000's series and only works, if you share my perception of what good Doctor Who should be (e.g. not horror, not overcomplicated and especially not dark and cynical). However, the index was actually broken in Capaldi's first season, where his coat's length was quite ok but the episodes were terrible. Luckily the emergence of the electric guitar enhanced the situation on the next season. Looking forward to see what the future brings along! Doctor Who by BBC

Dearest loveliest Elizabeth! I chose Elizabeth Bennett on my list to celebrate Jane Austen and her wondrous ability to capture in writing what goes on in a head of a young woman, regardless of the cultural differences, language barriers and time. Best chick-lit ever! Pride and Prejudice originally by Jane Austen. The BEST tv-series adaptation of it by BBC.

I guess it's going to be revealed during this Heroes-campaign anyway, but I'll just say it here: I have a weak spot in my heart for animated films, where an unlikely hero saves the day by being just who they is! Flint Lockwood from Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs -movies is a golden example of the type. Another dear nerd, the king of sarcasm but also the second cutest family man in the history of Irish youth literature, is of course Foaly. I don't dare to think what would happen, if these two technical child prodigys could come up with if they ever met each other. Featuring their monkey sidekicks. Sorry, a monkey and a prosimian. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller Artemis Fowl series by Eoin Colfer By the way, the cutest family man in the history of Irish youth literature is Declan Broekhart. Just so you know.

I SAID I had a weak spot for animations in my heart. Here Gru is obviously trying to sneak past Gromit to snatch some heist-o-matic props from Wallace's lab. Unfortunately Garret's pet unicorn was left behind, which caused a quarrel between Garret and Geoffrey, who wanted to continue with the mission. Greg and Glen were fast engaged in the dispute, which was soon about to involve Grant and Gerry as well. George was distracted because he dreamt of gorgonzola cheese. Despicable Me directed by Pierre Coffin (like the coolest last name!!!) and Chris Renaud Wallace and Gromit by Nick Park

Please welcome our guests! (Applause) Today they will discuss and share their thoughts about their relationship with demons: Hauru from Howl's Moving Castle by Hayao Miyazaki Holly Short from Artemis Fowl series by Eoin Colfer Hellboy from Hellboy by Mike Mignola

Language barrier!! In Finnish we know him as IKJ whereas in English he's BFG. Well, it happens :) I became a huge Roald Dahl fan in the age of 8 thanks to our teacher who read us Dahl at school. Thank you! For this listing I considered also Dad / Iskä from Dahl's Danny the Champion of the World, but since I knew I could never compete with Quentin Blake's illustration of Dad, I finally chose IKJ and made my own interpretation of "something terribly black and terribly thin". Sweet dreams! Big Friendly Giant by Roald Dahl ps. If you aren't familiar with the story, please don't watch Spielberg's movie but read the book! There's so much more magic in there! And read Danny the Champion of the World!!!

(The Tortuga song plays in the back:) Pirates of the Caribbean was hot in junior high. Nowadays it feels almost a bit embarrassing to dig it publically. But I had to choose one of all the Jacks and Johns! So there you go. Tia and Davy should have been a pair!!! A perfect match!!! And you ruuuuiiined it!!! The guy who looks like Kraken is actually Hank from Finding Dory, I think... Hiivatin Norrington! (Because) Pirates of the Caribbean by Gore Verbinski and Disney entertainment machine

Oops, after yesterday's Pirates the connection to today's lovely guy seems almost too obvious :D I can't deny PotC didn't inspire me to create Captain Andreas. There's just something about those lone seafarers! Captain, or Kapteeni in Finnish, is situated in K because it was already too crowded in A. This makes Kapu the first of the two characters on the list classified by their title. Trivia for the people! I know it can be a bit smug to choose a hero you made up yourself on the list of favourite heroes... But having composed and drawn the adventures of Kapu for about three years now I must say he's become quite important to me and I feel he deserves to be on the list. But in case someone want's to nag about it, I drew also another hero for K. He's Kit Fisto. Kit is a character without any lines but the most screen time compared to other Jedis in that category. I love the moment in Episode 2 where he grins after a completed droid smash :D Captain Andreas by me Star Wars by George Lucas and company

La Gueule has just presented his dismay about a frog sitting on his nose. Le Frog is figuring out the best ninja move to teach the big-headed musician a lesson. Le Corbusier just trolls: he's not fictious and I don't even like him. But I thought he'd complete the trio nicely. My greatest tragedy of 2010 was that Gainsbourg - Vie Heroïque was regarded by everyone else as JUST an artist biography. For me it was the best fantasy film of the year. Oh well. Aardman's Flushed Away has a cult status amongst MacKativer and me, mostly thanks to the aforementioned Le Frog. And I guess Le Corbusier could be considerd a hero by some people out there... Gainsbourg - Vie Heroïque directed by Joann Sfar Flushed Away directed by Sam Fell, David Bowers (xD) and Henry F. Anderson III

The Nerds vs. The World! Small gurus who kick ass! Animated! Yay! Thank you Master Shifu for being so grumpy and cuddly! <3 Thank you Milo Thatch for being such a geek and leading me to ask the right questions, such as "What does a production designer do?". Master Shifu from Kung Fu Panda directed by Mark Osborne and John Stevenson Milo Thatch from Atlantis: The Lost Empire directed by Gary Trousdale, Kirk Wise and Benedikt Rabanus

The Moomin were an intergral part of everyone's childhood and I'm not an exception. Nuuskamuikkunen/Snuffkin deserved his place on the list by being cool and mysterious, a little like a natural force you can't control. With a deep beautiful voice. ParaNorman is a movie I'd wish to be an integral part of someone's childhood. A lot of someones, actually, since it's not only a dynamic and entertaining horror film but an extremely well done stop-motion animation and a wise story about being yourself and believing in yourself regardless of bullying. Such sensibility from 10-year-old kids, watch and learn: "Don't you ever want to revenge your bullies? -Of course. But what would that accomplish?" If only there were more people who learnt this the world would be so much better! Moomin by Tove Jansson and her heirs respectively ParaNorman directed by Chis Butler and Sam Fell

I fell for Obi-Wan in the sensitive age of twelve or something when Revenge of the Sith came to cinemas. He also brought me and MacKativer together, in a way, for which I'm forever grateful. No more arguments needed, he's a hero. I couldn't remember the colour of Obi-Wan's light saber and on a critical moment I decided not to check it. It was 50-50 chance. So I beg forgiveness from all the puritans out there, I've deserved your laughs.

Amélie Poulain was classified according to her last name, because it was already too crowded in A and she definitely needed to be on the list. Päivänsäde Nuijamäyrä, also known as Sunflash the Mace in English, has found a nice spot here as well. Amélie directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet Redwall series by Brian Jacques

I was amazed beyond belief when I typed 'Jean le Flambeur' in Google and the results didn't feature ANY fan-art. So it's my task to fix it, then?! It's really baffling, because the Quantum Thief trilogy is such a visual universe and I couldn't believe no-one had taken up to draw about it before. Or maybe scifi readers just aren't eager fan-artists, who knows. So here we have Jean the quantum thief with some of his sidekicks. The cursing butterfly is Mieli's ship Perhonen and the puss-in-boots is Carabas, some sort of security system in Jean's own ship Leblanc. Someone once said the Quantum thief series was like reading a dream so I guess this sort of literal visualizations of stuff are quite okay. Quantum Thief by Hannu Rajaniemi
