Sain taannoin ystävältä pari palaa sellua. Tänään piti tehdä jotakin muuta, mutta kokeilunhalu yllätti. / Some time ago my friend gave me a couple pieces of pulp. Today I was going to do something else, but I felt curious.

Powerpoint got black immediately after the first round. / Luckily we had time to tune it, 'cause the first listeners came in ten minutes late. / Though there was a little audience, it was happy and inspiring. / Go and do some wandering; I need to knit more. Lovely Anna took care of our table when we're presenting. / When self-publishing, you can do just like you want. As always, the best thing at the Comics Oasis was the meetings... / ... and at the Museum of Art of course the exhibitions. And this: Maybe we are not censored by no-one else but ourselves. Though the bio art did sound pretty exciting.

Olen puurtanut novellini parissa, mutta nyt on joulutauon paikka. Tässä yksi sivu ennen lomaa. / I've been scrubbing with my short story, but now it's time to take a holiday break. Here's one page before vacation. I like people, but I need to quiet, too. / I'm from a small town by the sea. / There houses were low and was a lot of sky to see. / I think that's why I want to stare the far point.

Tällä viikolla Kaakelin viemää alkoi Kuukauden kotimaisena Ilta-Sanomissa. Siellä siis joka arkipäivä tammikuun ajan, blogissa kerran viikossa toivottavasti paljon pidempään! / This week Kaakelin viemää (Gone with the Ceramic Tiles) started as a Month's domestic strip at Ilta-Sanomat. On paper it will be published at weekdays 'til end of January, here on blog once a week hopefully much longer time! You don't come into sauna with footwear. / Leave those behind the door. Viikko sitten olin Porvoon Å-festissä, ja oli innostavaa. Moni kaipasi englanninkielisiä pienlehtiä, ja vaikka sinnikkäimmät ostivat ilman käännöstäkin, tässä edes yksi. Olimme Taide ja komiikka -kurssin voimin pitämässä pop-up -näyttelyä metroasemalla viikko sitten. En tiedä, oliko koomisinta se, että yritimme pysäyttää ihmiset taiteen ääreen keskellä iltapäivän kiireitä, vai mikä... / From Comic art -course we were holding pop-up -exhibition at metro station a week ago. I don't know, what was the most comical: we trying to stop people with art at the busy afternoon or what... Teemamme oli ruoka. Itse tein anakronismeja ja yhdistin uutta, vanhaa ja vielä vanhempaa. / Our theme was food. I made anachronisms and put together new, old ja really old. Metroasemaotannalla näistä kiinnostuivat eniten lapset. Eläköön uteliaisuus! / At metro station sampling these attracted more children than adults. Long live curiosity!

Syksy on viime vuosina alkanut Helsingin Sarjisfestareista ja talvi Oulun vastaavasta. Tänä vuonna rytmiin tuli astetta räväkämpi poikkeama, kun Suomen Sarjakuvaseura järjesti indieryhmille mahdollisuuden esittäytyä Helsingin Kirjamessuilla . Sinne siis Laten ja kumppanien kera! Aika iso juttu parin festarin välissä! Autumn has recently started from Helsinki Comics Festival and winter from Oulu's. At this year the rhythm changed dramatically, when the Finnish Comics Society gave indie groups an opportunity to present themselves at Helsinki Book Fair. So there I go with Late and Comps! Big happening between festivals! Sen verran häävi tapahtuma, että päätin väsätä käyntikortin. Onneksi sopiva luonnos tuli tehtyä jo Helsinki Zine Festissä pitämässämme työpajassa . So good opportunity, that I decided to make a business card. Luckily I've made a suitable draft at comic workshop we're participating at Helsinki Zine Fest. Lukuisia työvaiheita ja jonniinmoista säätöä myöhemmin ollaan jo tässä. Viikko aikaa kaikkeen muuhun valmistautumiseen! After numerous stages and some kind of tuning I'm at this point. Still one week left for all other preparation!

Opiskelen kuvittamista Sarjakuvakeskuksella ja olen intoa täynnä! Viimeksi Terhi Ekebom johdatti meidät toistuvan kuvion pariin. Aloitin siitä, mitä penaalista löytyi. / I'm studying illustration at Comics Center and I'm so excited! Last lesson Terhi Ekebom led us to repeat pattern. I started with something from my pencil case. Seuraavaksi piirros saksittiin ja teipattiin uudestaan kasaan. Varmistelin, ja silppusin kopion originaalista. / Next the drawing were cut and taped together. I secured and cut up a copy. Pieni lisäys piirroksen keskiosaan. / A small addition to the center part. Korjausteippiä tuhruihin. / Some correcting tape onto specks. Kopiokoneella testi: toistuu ihan nätisti. / Testing by copy machine: repeats itself nicely. Ja kaikki tämä kahdessa tunnissa! Huippua! / And all this in two hours! Great! Kotona tietokoneella huomasin, ettei kuvio toistukaan saumattomasti. Lisää tarkkuutta seuraavaan kokeiluun siis... Onneksi on ehjä originaali! / At home at the computer I found out, that pattern doesn't repeat seamless. So more accuracy for next test... Luckily I have whole original! Piti sitä silti kokeilla värin kanssa. / However I had to test it with a colour.

Tällä viikolla tavoitin kuvituskurssilla jotain lapsuuden leikin kaltaista. Ensin tussattiin pintoja: pesusieni, liian kuiva sivellin ja vääntynyt haarukka ovat hauskempia kuin kynä. / This week I reached something like childhood play at an illustration class. First some inking: a sponge, too dry brush and warped fork are funnier than a marker. Arpajaisissa sain luonteikkaan tyypin työstettäväksi. / At a lottery I got a lifelike character to work with. Sormet tussissa ja liimassa, mutta uusi tyyppi oksalla! / Fingers covered by ink and glue, but a new dude on a branch!

Ensimmäiset päivämäärät on nyt sovittu. Avaan Minun kehoni -pienlehdestä toteutetun näyttelyni Käpylän Pysäkillä 11.5. ja samana päivänä pidämme siellä Kaisan kanssa kehomyönteisen työpajamme. Ohjasimme pajan ensimmäistä kertaa viime syksynä Helsinki Zine Festissä ja saimme sydämellistä palautetta. Jännittävää nähdä, tuleeko Käpylän Pysäkillä mukaan myös sarjakuvan ensikertalaisia! / First dates are settled now. I'll open my exhibition from "My body" -zine at Käpylän Pysäkki on the 11th of May and at the same day me and Kaisa will lead our body positive workshop there. We led that workshop first time at Helsinki Zine Fest last autumn and got some heartfelt feedback. It's exciting to see, if some first-timers of comics also come along at Käpylän Pysäkki!

Sarjisporukkamme Late ja kumppanit valmistautuu Tampereen Kupliin . Suunnittelin porukan leiman ja leikin hieman väreillä. / Our comics gang Late and friends is getting ready for Tampere Kuplii comics festival . I designed gang's stamp and played with some colours. Kaisa varasi rintanappikoneen Keskustakirjasto Oodista ja toimi operaation johtajana. / Kaisa booked a badge machine at Central library Oodi and led the operation. Näkemisiin Tampere-talon 2. kerroksessa 23. ja 24.3. Meidät tunnistaa näistä! / See you at 2nd floor of Tampere Hall at March 23rd and 24th. You recognise us from these!

Viime viikolla tutkimme kuvituskurssilla, miten viiva vaikuttaa piirrokseen. / Last week we tested at illustration class, how the line affects the drawing. Viehätyin rikotun viivan liikkeestä. / I was fascinated about the movement of the broken line. Kurssikaverit kehottivat tekemään pussilakanakuosin. Pakkohan se oli kokeilla! / Classmates recommended to make the pattern for duvet cover. I had to test! Kauniita unia! / Sleep tight!

"Someone had taken my towel." "Well, damn." / "No, wait... What's that then?" "This is the bath towel. My little towel had taken." / I use it under my butt at sauna. Hope it was needed.

Kuvituskurssilla leikimme kirjaimilla. Näetkö tässä kirjaimen? / At illustration class we played with letters. Do you see a letter here? Tai tässä? / Or here? Tämä viimeinen on helppo. Tavallaan... / The last one is easy. Kind of...

Sain testattavakseni raapekartonkia. Jännittävää! / I got to test a scraperboard. Exciting! Lopetin testailun (liian?) lyhyeen ja aloin hahmotella otsikkoa tulevalle sarjikselle. / I stopped testing (too?) soon and started to sketch the title for upcoming comics. Ei tämä vielä painokoneeseen lähde, mutta saatanpa poiketa taidetarvikeliikkeeseen! / This isn't going to press yet, but I might drop in an artist material store!

On vaalisunnuntai, ja minä havahduin siihen, että näyttelyyni on alle kuukausi aikaa. / It's time to vote, and I woke up noticing, that there is not even a month to go for my exhibition. Äänestää voin vain kerran, mutta näyttelyä varten sain tehdyksi enemmänkin. / I could vote only once, but for exhibition I did more. Esittelytekstiä hion vasta sitten, kun vaalikuohunta on ohi. Näyttelyrekvisiittaa oli nyt hauskempi haalia! / I'll fix the introduction when the bubbling of election is gone. Now it was more fun to gather some props for exhibition. "I started the removal treatment for cellulite." "Oh." / "Did you buy a subscription here?" "No, no." / I use this, and no-one notices my cellulite!

Oletko kokeillut töiden kiinnittämistä tarrapintaiseen kapalevyyn? "Aika näppärää, jos on koskaan laittanut kontaktimuovia kirjojen kansiin", minulle sanottiin. Ei kun töihin siis. / Have you ever tried to fix prints to kapa-fix? "Pretty handy, if you have ever fixed contact paper to book covers", I was told. So let's do it. "Aika näppärää" tarkoitti kärsivällisyyttä ja mielenrauhaa koettelevaa kokemusta. / "Pretty handy" ment an experience that tests ones patience and peace of mind. Onnistumisprosenttini oli vain 50. Kun saman viikon ajalle mahtuu näyttelyn rakentamista, yhteisnäyttelyn ja oman näyttelyn avajaiset sekä työpajan ohjaaminen, on näin sunnuntaina sellainen olo, ettei ihan vielä hahmota, mitä kaikkea tapahtui. /Building a exhibition, opening a shared exhibition and an own exhibition plus guiding a workshop, all within one week, and on sunday you really don´t comprehend what happened. Näyttelyssä rakensin sarjakuvanteon eri vaiheet vitriiniin eri hyllyille. Seinille ripustettavien teosten paikat hahmottelin yhdessä näyttelykoordinaattori Mervin kanssa, jonka jälkeen sain poistua areenalta ja Mervi kollegansa kanssa hoiti hermoja koettelevan ripustusvaiheen. Oi, mitä luksusta! /At my exhibition I constructed different steps of making comics in different shelves of a vitrine. I outlined the places for pieces on the wall with coordinator Mervi, and after that I was allowed to leave so Mervi and her colleague did the afflicting suspension. Oh, what a luxury! Sarjakuvakeskuksen kurssien yhteisnäyttelyn ripustuksen hoiti keskuksen väki, joten sain sielläkin napsia rusinat pullasta ja marssia suoraan avajaisiin nauttimaan talven pakerruksen tuloksista. /Comics Center's people did the suspension for the courses' shared exhibition, so I could cherry-pick also there and go straight to the opening to enjoy the outcome of winter's toil. Sarjakuvatyöpajassa ohjasimme Kaisan Å:n kanssa ensimmäistä kertaa ihmisiä, jotka ovat piirtäneet viimeksi kouluvuosinaan. Siis noin 80 vuotta sitten. Kuvan- ja sarjakuvan lukutaitoa kyllä oli, niin hienon tulkinnan sain omasta, kömpelöstä stripistäni. /At the workshop we guided with Kaisa Å for the first time people, who has lastly drawn at their school years. That's some 80 years ago. They did have ability to read pictures and comics though, I got so amazing interpretation of my rustic comic strip. Kun vielä näyttelyssä sain kaunista palautetta niin kuvista kuin teksteistä sekä luottokääntäjä Kaisa H:n sanavalinnoista, olo on kovin kiitollinen. Että vaikka itse antaisi kuinka paljon, saa takaisin yllin kyllin enemmän. /When all the more at the exhibition I got beautiful feedback from pictures and texts and choices of words made by my trusted translator Kaisa H, I feel very grateful. That even how much you give, you get back plentifully more.

Olen ottanut aikaa keskeneräisen sarjakuvani tekoon. Lopultakin. Pelotti tarttua siveltimiin maalaustarkoituksessa: edellinen kokeiluni oli puolisen vuotta sitten, enkä ollut tyytyväinen jälkeen. Epäilin olevani nyt vielä pahemmassa ruosteessa. / I took time for making my unfinished comics. At last. I was afraid of gripping brushes by intention to paint: my last try was half a year ago, and I wasn't pleased by the outcome. I doubted to be even more rusty now. Olen kuitenkin tyytyväinen. Eiköhän tämä Helsinki Zine Festiin mennessä valmistu! / I'm happy after all. I think this is going to be completed before Helsinki Zine Fest! [When young I used to work at pizzerias. / The smell of oregano started soon to annoy me, / but I never got fed up with pizza. "I put some salmon for you." "Wow! Thanks."]

Sarjakuvanteon ohessa olen alkanut haastaa itseäni erilaisilla tehtävillä. Kun totesin, etten osaa piirtää kenkiä, aloin piirtää niitä luonnoskirjaani ja julkaista kuvia ig-tililläni nnlpplnn . Tavoitteena on sata kuvaa, mutta tahdin päätän itse. / Besides making comics I've started to challenge myself with different tasks. When I realized, that I can't draw shoes, I started to draw them on my sketchbook and publish the pictures at my ig nnlpplnn . Target is hundred pictures, but I deside the rate by myself. Kesäkuun alussa sarjisporukkamme Late ja kumppanit alkoi julkaista facebooksivullaan päivän aihetta, ja niitäkin aion toteuttaa ajan ja inspiraation salliessa. Eli jos blogissa ei näy kesän aikana elämää, käy kurkistamassa ig ja fb. / In the beginning of June our comics gang Late and friends started to launch days theme at facebook , and I'm gonna put into practice also these when I have time and inspiration. So if here's nothing in my blog, go and check ig and fb. Piirtämisiin siis! Tänään aiheena oli hyönteinen. / Let's draw then! Todays theme was a bug. Kuten aiemmin kerroin, olen ottanut tänä kesänä haasteita itselleni. / Like I wrote earlier, this summer I've been challenging myself. Yllätin itseni tarttumalla Laten ja kumppanien haasteen alkajaisiksi saksiin. Ajattelen eri tavalla, kun toteutan kuvaa leikkaamalla enkä piirtämällä. Pidän myös varjosta, joka eri kerrosten väliin jää. / I surprised myself by taking a grip of scissors when Late and friends' theme was launched. I think differently, when I make picture by cutting, not drawing. I like also the shadow, which lays between separate layers. Täytyyhän tällä tekniikalla pieni sarjakuvakin tehdä, on tämän sen verran hauskaa! / I'll have to make a little comic with this technique, too, this is so fun! Toukokuussa otin siveltimet käteen ja maalasin loppuun sarjakuvani, jota tein ahkerasti reilua vuotta aiemmin. Matkassa oli mutkia, kuten kai aina, mutta nyt olen tyytyväinen, kun sarjis on painotuoreena kohta festivaalipöydällä. / In May I took my brushes and finished my comic, which I hardworkingly made a bit more than a year ago. There were twists and turns, like always, I suppose, but now I'm happy, when comics is just published and will soon be on a festival desk. Kävin juuri tänään ripustamassa myös kehomyönteisen Minun kehoni -näyttelyni Kinaporin palvelukeskuksen käytävälle ja vitriiniin, näppärän kävelymatkan päähän Helsingin Sarjakuvafestivaalien alueelta siis. Keskus aukeaa viikonloppuisinkin jo klo 9, joten jos tulee bussilla tai metrolla Sörnäisiin, voi kävellä ensin Kinaporiin ja siitä sitten Suvilahteen festaroimaan. / Just today I hooked my body positive exhibition My body into the Kinapori Service Center, in a walking distance from Helsinki Comics Festival . Center opens at 9 o'clock at weekends, so if you come to Sörnäinen by bus or metro, you can walk first to Kinapori and then to Suvilahti festival area. Lisäksi olen Laten ja kumppanien kanssa julkaissut jo kaksi numeroa Vastatuulen saluuna -sarjakuvalehteä, joten festaritunnelmat ovat valmiiksi korkealla. / I also have published with Late and friends at last two issues of comics Vastatuulen saluuna, so I'm in good festival spirit already. Huh. Syksy on ollut täynnä aikatauluja, mutta osin hyvin innostavia sellaisia, joten ei auta valittaa. Olen nimittäin alkanut opiskella kuvataiteen perusteita! Tänä syksynä olen mm. tehnyt tuttavuutta värikynien kanssa. Joistain piirustuksista saattaa valmistua uusi pienlehtikin Oulun Sarjakuvafestivaaliin mennessä. Jos aika riittää. Osallistun Oulussa myös Pop up -näyttelyyn , joten ahkeroin Minun kehoni -pienlehtiä lisää. Sitä ja tietysti syksyllä ilmestynyttä sarjakuvaani Entä sitten, kun en itse enää pysty? myyn festareilla tutusti Laten ja kumppanien pöydässä. Laten ja kumppanien Vastatuulen saluunasta ilmestyy festariin mennessä jo kolmas numero. Ensimmäinen vuosikerta on sitten kasassa! Itseltäni uutukaisessa esittäytyvät tällaiset tyypit. Lisäksi teen uuteen, pidempään sarjakuvaan kuvakäsikirjoitusta, mutta siitä lisää sitten, kun pääsen testailemaan hahmoja luonnostasolla. Monenlaista tapahtuu, vaikka blogi onkin jäänyt valitettavan syrjään. Pieniä kurkistuksia päivitän kuitenkin instaan tätä tiuhemmin. Ne löydät nimellä nnlpplnn .

Siis katupölyä, köh! Mutta myös auringonvaloa! Ehkä siihen liittyen työpöydälläni näyttää nyt tältä: Kuvataideopinnot vievät näin etäopintojen aikakaudella jo ihan fyysistäkin tilaa sarjakuvan työstämiseltä. Henkistä tilaa ne ovat vallanneet syksystä saakka. Jotkin sarjakuvahankkeet kuitenkin etenevät. Laten ja kumppanien Vastatuulen saluunan neljäs numero ilmestyi viime viikolla ja Möhmötit jatkavat siinä esittäytymistään. Poikkeustilaan sopivasti nekin pyörivät ihan kotosalla. Saa nähdä, mihin sarjakuvat jatkossa sijoittuvat, jos tämä kotiympyröissä pörrääminen jatkuu pitkäänkin!

En ole ainoa, joka on tänä vuonna viettänyt enemmän aikaa kotonaan kuin vuosiin, kenties koskaan, ja silti päivittänyt vähemmän blogiaan. Jotenkin tuntuu, ettei ole ollut päivitettävääkään, mutta eihän se ole totta. Ylläolevan kuvan tein Vastatuulen saluunan numeroon 5. Olin vahvasti mukana vielä kyseisen lehden kevään ja syksyn numeroissa, ja kuinka ollakaan, siellä Möhmötitkin muistelivat menneitä matkojaan. Kesällä piti oleman Entä sitten, kun en itse enää pysty? -sarjakuvani näyttely Käpyrinteen palvelutalon galleriassa. Onneksi kyseisen talon puuhanaiset innostuivat (tässäkin asiassa!) ja jaksoivat rakentaa näyttelyn verkkoon , kun talon ovet oli syytä pitää säpissä. Tein näyttelyyn liittyen muutaman lyhyen videonkin, jotka löytyvät täältä . Ja kiitos Railikin , yhteisen Tähti -sarjakuvamme originaalit eli suuret tekstiilitaulut ovat pääsemässä jälleen esille, tällä kertaan Tornion kuvataideseuran Taidekamarin seinille ensi tammikuun ajaksi, mikäli epidemiatilanne sen suinkin sallii. Kaikesta innostavasta huolimatta olo on kyllä välillä ollut tällainenkin. Jos joululahjoja toivoisin, mielenrauha olisi listan kärjessä.

Möhmötit jatkavat siis kotoiluaan, vaikka kävivätkin Suomi-Espanja Seuran Lumikide kohtaa auringon -blogissa muistelemassa, millaista olikaan matkustaa. Itse suunnittelen nojatuolimatkaa Porvooseen eli vuoden ensimmäiselle sarjisfestarille Å-festiin . Aion istua mukavasti kotosalla ja seurata festarin kanavalta lähes kaiken, mitä tuleman pitää. Samalla rustaan omaa kuvakässäriäni, jos suinkin maltan. Mukavaa festarointia itse kullekin!
